Abstract

This article investigates the influence of lean technique in a manufacturing organization, by analyzing the current flow process, identify problem areas implement 5S as one of the lean techniques, and propose a more efficient process flow. The methodology that was followed to gather data for the purpose of this was on-site observation and interview of employees. It was found that the current flow process related to the replacement division was not well structured and consistent with many unnecessary activities. Using lean methodologies of standardized work and bottleneck and constraint management, a more efficient and effective flow process was proposed which led to the eradication of unnecessary activities in the product replacement process. Furthermore, it was proposed that future research should be based on continuous improvement through that application of lean principles.
