Abstract

Safety is a major concern in high-hazardous industries such as oil/gas that is the leading sector in Saudi Arabia for large multinational projects. The news media and the Saudi General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) confirm that safety performance is unsatisfactory in oil/gas work sites. However, safety culture is vague due to lack of research that focuses on understanding employees’ motivation level and monitors their safety behaviors. Thus, assessing the Saudi Arabian employees’ safety culture is a necessity to improve their safety performance. Therefore, the main goal of this research is to provide improvement opportunities and design a robust safety culture among oil/gas workers in Saudi Arabia in multinational companies. Two components will be discussed in this presentation. 1) To assess safety culture and develop a sustainable model, and 2) To investigate the influence of safety culture on safety performance measures regarding employees’ error and violation behaviors, and 3) To examine the impact of workers’ mediating role of safety motivation between safety culture and safety performance.
