Track: Lean Six Sigma Competition
Abstract
This research presents an in-depth examination of a Six Sigma project undertaken at The Marwin Company, which aims to improve the manufacturing process of Knee Wall Doors — specifically, reducing the defective units and the reprocessing time. The project is based on the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) approach and utilizes various tools from the Six Sigma methodology, such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), control charts, and Design of Experiments (DOE).
After an objective evaluation, we define a possible root cause and propose improvements based on the data collection and statistical analysis results. This study's results allowed a better understanding of which factors can affect the quality of the product and what decisions can be taken to control it.
This research concludes that temperature when gluing and pressing is a significant factor in the process. The higher the temperature, the more viscous the glue will be, resulting in a more significant amount of adhesive flowing out to the edges when the door enters the pressing machine, which reduces the amount of glue in contact with both surfaces. Hence, the time factor can be adjusted based on the temperature to get better bondage between materials.
