Abstract

Passenger vehicle segment in India is growing at a CAGR of 9.7% in the last 15 years. It is creating a huge demand on service industry. Only 49% of the service demand is catered by the OEM authorized service centres for mostly newer vehicles and 50% is by the independent garages in the unorganized sector. The remaining 1% is by Multibrand outlets. Due to advancement in vehicle technology, it is very challenging for the IGs to service the modern vehicles. The total market size under the IGs is around INR 140 billion.

It necessitates the major stakeholders in the service industry to come forward and bring the IGs under organized platform. A project has been taken up in this direction through collaboration between an OEM giant and a lubricant manufacturer. While the OEM will provide the skill & knowledge, standardized procedure & system and assured supply of genuine spares, the lubricant manufacturer will give financial support on face uplifting of the IG, equipment purchase against assured lubricants purchase. The IG will get share of the brands of both the collaborating partners to improve the image in the locality. The ultimate winner will be the customer who will get quality service at reasonable price at his own locality.
