Abstract
Abstract
This study investigates the profound impacts of inadequate Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) infrastructure on higher education institutions (HEIs) in South Africa. Utilizing a comprehensive questionnaire, the research unveils a landscape marked by critical deficiencies in infrastructure necessary for embracing 4IR technologies. Poor 4IR infrastructure, lack of co-curricular resources, inadequate internet connectivity, and outdated technologies emerge as key challenges hindering seamless integration. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) reveals distinct clusters of variables, highlighting the pervasive nature of infrastructure-related challenges. Factor 1, termed "Impact of Inadequate 4IR Infrastructure," encapsulates a spectrum of deficiencies, emphasizing their implications for academic excellence and innovation. Addressing these challenges requires strategic investments in modernizing educational facilities, enhancing digital literacy initiatives, and fostering partnerships. By prioritizing the establishment of a robust 4IR ecosystem within HEIs, South Africa can unlock its academic potential and emerge as a global leader in the digital era.
