Abstract

The study by Ms. Soon shares several practical perspectives for the container
shipping firms especially on their role in supply chain integration (SCI) in the
relationship between knowledge management orientation (KMO) and firm
performance. The results suggest container shipping firms should recognise the
role of SCI for internal and external collaboration. SCI is an influential factor on
firm performance favouring market performance, financial performance and
customer service. Specifically, the finding infers that collaboration among
suppliers, departments of the focal firm and customers could bridge KMO to and
enhance firm performance in the container shipping firms. This effectively
addresses the neglected role of SCI in the maritime industry. The results suggest
that KMO and SCI are equally important and should be taken into consideration
when managing firm performance.
