Abstract

The logistics sector is one of the most important economic sectors in the world. This sector encompasses several areas, including transportation and distribution, supply chains, operations, imports, warehouses, and various types of purchasing. Therefore, countries across the world seek to focus on the logistics services sector and its development. The development of the industry and the automation of manufacturing processes in warehouses have led to the great need for smart warehouses to develop manufacturing processes. The logistics services sector is within Oman’s 2040 vision, which focuses on sectors such as logistics rather than oil, gas, or other materials which are not sustainable. Many well-thought-out plans such as government incentives and programmes in the higher education sector have been implemented to encourage the growth of this sector in Oman.

The study applied a pragmatic research approach which combines the exploratory and descriptive research design. Questionnaire and in-depth interviews were used to collect data. The results indicate that most employees agree that innovative solutions are a catalyst for the development and speed of operations in the warehouse. The study recommends that operations in warehouse management should be driven by finding innovative solutions and developing systems used in warehouse. The study explores technical innovations that can be implemented in the Medical Supply Unit Warehouse, Oman. Among the innovative solutions discussed are barcodes, drones, human-robot cooperation, artificial intelligence, and others. The aim of the research is to keep up with the progress and industrial development in the world, thereby reducing the effort and time spent by employees in the warehouse. These solutions will greatly contribute to the development of warehouse operations and will reduce the risks involved in loading medical materials because they are heavy and dangerous.
