Abstract

Every nation aspires to have a capable national defense that is backed by a robust national defense industry. One of the most important expectations is that the defense industry, like every other sector, should make maximum use of technology for establishing an independent national defense. 3D printing as an emerging technology is widely used in many sectors including mari-time, aerospace, and automotive. It should come as no surprise then, that it is also being increasingly adopted by the defense sector worldwide. This study focuses on the effects of 3D printing technology on Türkiye’s defense industry. For this purpose, a three-stage methodology was followed. In the first stage, the positive and negative effects of 3D printers on the defense indus-try were determined via literature. In the second stage, the SWOT analysis of Türkiye's defense industry was examined. In the last stage, the effects of 3D printers on the outputs obtained at the end of SWOT were carried out. The opinions needed during the study were obtained from defense industry companies in Türkiye and academicians working in this field.
